Physical Therapy FAQs in Little Rock

Chiropractic Little Rock AR Physical Therapy FAQs

Physical therapy is a non-invasive approach to injury rehabilitation and pain management that helps to safely speed the recovery process and restore a full range of mobility, coordination and flexibility. Our Little Rock chiropractors integrate physical therapy services with chiropractic care and other therapies to deliver the best treatment possible. If you are new to physical therapy or are not familiar with our approach to wellness care, it's natural to have questions about what to expect and how best to prepare. Below, our wellness team answers five of the most frequently asked questions about physical therapy:

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY?

At Pain Care Associates, our wellness team finds that physical therapy can be very beneficial for many different patients. We treat individuals who have recently sustained a sports injury, personal injury and/or workplace injury. Our goal is to help patients regain maximum mobility after these injuries. We also work with patients who have ongoing pain or reduced mobility due to a past health issue. Our wellness team is experienced in helping alleviate conditions that are related to aging, such as degenerative discs and arthritis. Finally, we also work closely with patients to correct poor postural habits due to incorrect ergonomics at work, slouching and pulled muscles.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING A PHYSICAL THERAPY APPOINTMENT?

Every physical therapy session is fully customized to meet our patients’ individual pain management and injury rehabilitation needs. For example, depending on your injury, this could mean working with corrective exercises to help re-build strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility. During an appointment, we will teach you the proper exercise form so you can safely perform this exercise at home and enhance your healing. We may also integrate soft-tissue mobilization into treatment, which is a hands-on therapy to manipulate the fascia near the joints to release pressure and tension and improve range of motion.

WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE?

Myofascial release is a treatment technique that addresses the muscles and tissues covering them (the fascia), which can become tight and painful after an injury. Myofascial release helps to release this tension from the body, which is critical to restoring mobility. We may also integrate this therapy with soft tissue and joint mobilization, a hands-on-therapy that manipulates the fascia near the joins for improved range of motion.

HOW CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP IMPROVE MY POSTURE?

Poor posture can strain the lumbar spine and cervical spine, triggering recurring pain and increasing the risk for back problems. Our physical therapy team offers spine stabilization, which are core strengthening exercises that help you avoid future injury. A stronger core will help you maintain correct posture throughout the day. We also provide ergonomic recommendations, like changing the seat height for your chair, to help improve workplace posture.
