The majority of individuals that are unable to work are disabled due to lower back pain. Our Little Rock and Benton chiropractor can locate the sources of your lower back pain and devise a course of treatment to heal the underlying injuries so that you can get back to living your life to the fullest.
Causes of Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain is typically caused by herniated discs, pinched nerves, sciatica or a combination of the three. Herniated discs occur when the inner jelly-like center of the disc bulges through the tougher outer layer. The bulging material can put pressure on the spinal cord, nerve roots and soft tissues, causing pain, inflammation, numbness and tingling.
Pinched nerves are also called compressed nerves. They occur when another part of the body interferes with the nerve’s pathway, including joints, ligaments and tendons. Pinched nerves can be caused by repetitive motion injuries, sports injuries or sudden injuries. Symptoms of a compressed nerve include localized or radiating pain, numbness, tingling and burning sensations. In severe cases, the individual may also experience muscle weakness.
Sciatica refers to the compression or pinching of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down the legs and into the feet. Symptoms of sciatica include lower back pain, leg pain and numbness. It can also cause tingling and burning down one or both legs. In severe cases of sciatica, the individual experiences difficulty walking that can leave them unable to perform daily tasks.
If you are currently experiencing lower back or leg pain, you should schedule an appointment at one of our offices. We have an office in Little Rock and in Benton, AR. Back pain that lasts more than a few days does not typically heal on its own. If you have sciatica, a bulging disc or a pinched nerve, the pain usually gets worse the longer it goes untreated. It could even leave you unable to work.
Treatment Options from our Little Rock and Benton Chiropractor
Our Little Rock Chiropractor and our Benton chiropractor can evaluate your back pain and recommend a course of treatment, including chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy. Chiropractic adjustments are a natural way to push the vertebrae back into their proper positions. Our chiropractor can perform the adjustments manually or with the Pro-adjuster, which is a handheld device that applies precise pressure through a rubber tipped arm.
Once the vertebrae are correctly aligned, inflammation and pain are reduced. Chiropractic adjustments help alleviate the pressure on pinched nerves, and they can facilitate the healing of herniated discs.
Physical therapy helps strengthen core and extremity muscles. When the muscles are strong, they are better able to support the spine and the rest of the skeleton, which reduces the likelihood of future injuries. It also works to correct poor posture.
